American Traveler seeks a Surgical First Assist CST (CSFA) for a cardiothoracic surgical services position supporting a high-volume OR department.
Work in a surgical services department with 15 OR suites, including hybrid and cardiothoracic rooms
CFA Hearts assignment with focus on cardiothoracic and other surgical procedures
Monday through Friday schedule, 8-hour day shifts from 0600-1430
Call required every other day and every other weekend
26-week contract assignment
BLS certification required
NBSTSA Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) credential required
License required if applicable
Technical diploma from an accredited surgical technologist program or comparable military training
Completion of a Surgical First Assistant program required
No prior experience required, though 6-12 months preferred
Must successfully complete an approved course on saphenous vein harvesting to perform independently
Last 4 digits of SSN and month/day of date of birth required for consideration
Function as the surgeon's chief assistant in the operating room, supervised by the department director and nurse manager
Assist with sterile field set-up, instrument and supply preparation, and patient positioning and draping
Pass instruments and assist the physician as needed, including clamping, cauterizing, tying, and applying ligating clamps or hemostatic clips
Perform suturing of wound layers including muscle, fascia, subcutaneous tissue, and skin as directed
Perform saphenous vein harvesting (open and endoscopic) independently under physician supervision after completing required training
Maintain sterile field throughout the case and alert circulating nurse of any risks or deviations from standard procedures
Perform point-of-use cleaning and breakdown of instruments for Central Sterile Processing
Ensure surgical suites are disinfected and ready for subsequent procedures
Local candidates accepted at a lower rate
Radius rule of 75 miles applies for travel pay eligibility
